A flash of steel and a running blade, locked door and a broken mirror. Do you know this scene? It’s easy to hide it away, that nobody can see you. And it feels right. Like you’re doing what must be done, while hiding what nobody must see.
Depression is more common than we could ever know. Even our best friends hide their secrets, afraid we couldn’t help them. It’s true. How could we help those few important to us without professional capacity? How can we let ourselves carry the burden of responsibility for those beautiful few we know?
It’s not a place of comfort, to risk our kindness as their savior. But sometimes it’s all we can do. If you know somebody who faces suicidal thoughts, please, don’t let them out of your sight, and find professional help. We need to know their stories if we’re to save their worlds.
