While I heard her in the evening
And a blessing to my beard
There I stayed, she came a-running
For my life she made a-feared

So I asked her though I’m knowing
Of the problems in her socks
And she told me, anger growing
Growing lava in her locks

“Ye filth,
Ye cur”
She told me in a roar

“Ye slept
With her”
She kicked me out the door

Though I know I meant no wrong
When I went fishing late at night
We can say in her defense
I have no proof that fish could bite

I stayed on over yonder
With a friend I met in June
How she listened close to ponder
And we sang a wary tune

On the innocence and clarity
That nature has to share
From the neatest little minnow
To the lumber-lazy bear

“She’s come
So hide
And quick avail a plan”

“As if
I lied
She’ll kick her loving man”

As if
He vied
To find a better mate
I think he’d be much better
If he found a different fate

“Ye filth,
Ye cur”
She told me in a roar

“Ye slept
With her”
She kicked me out the door

Though I know I meant no wrong
When I went fishing late at night
I can say in her defense
I have no proof that fish could bite
