I know a love story. One about a girl who can’t seem to get her man to speak direct answers to her questions. It’s a story about trust, and those mental connections that teach us to distrust. Do you think it works out for those two? They have so many more stories to tell, so if you’ll sit with me, we can start with just one of them. A story, of

A Littler Fairy’s Eyes

I knew myself a maiden who
Would love me light as hay
She asked me for my name
And thought me elven in a way

And though my ears were pointed
Sure she saw me as a sprite
My ears were horns anointed
But I swore I wouldn’t bite

Oh littler fairy
Why’d you dream of me
I’m not that kind of man

Wee fairy
Why’d you think of me
Just run out while you can

Littler fairy
What you see of me
Is more than 1-to-10

Fairy
Why’d you want for me
I’ll do it all again

She told me once, oh fairer day
She told me once and square
Her dreams, she saw a child
With a countenance compare

She saw it in her fantasy
It came to her one night
And in her dream, it looked like me
Her eyes shone with delight

Oh littler fairy
Why’d you dream of me
I’m not that kind of man

Wee fairy
Why’d you think of me
Just run out while you can

Littler fairy
What you see of me
Is more than 1-to-10

Fairy
Why’d you want for me
I’ll do it all again

Well a chipmunk asked me questions
Found me lying in a prayer
He spotted inconsistencies
And pointed in a dare

He told me I was cheating on you
Said I didn’t care
I laughed it off, said “Where you’re going
None will hear you there”

Oh littler fairy
Why’d you dream of me
I’m not that kind of man

Wee fairy
Why’d you think of me
Just run out while you can

Littler fairy
What you see of me
Is more than 1-to-10

Fairy
Why’d you want for me
I’ll do it all again

Then in a mossy clearing
Where I laid the beast to rest
Her shackles brought her peering
Like she said, she knew it best

And though she’d tell me oftentimes
How sure she’d love me so
She saw the little problem
I’d have wished no-one to know

Oh littler fairy
Why’d you dream of me
I’m not that kind of man

Wee fairy
Why’d you think of me
Just run out while you can

Littler fairy
What you see of me
Is more than 1-to-10

Fairy
Why’d you want for me
I’ll do it all again

Folk Song Follow-Up

When you listen to a folk song, what does it bring out of you? I can’t help but love folk songs! Spanning generations, telling of communities, family hardships, all that comes from the heart and takes to the streets. In that way, isn’t rap just a type of folk song? Think about it! That’s crazy, right?

This song was inspired by “Step it Up, Mary”, a children’s skipping song expounded upon by Sean McCarthy, its actual penning date lost to time. One source believes it to have been from 1955, but I can’t find any citations and it’s a discussion thread. Do even the Irish know about the Irish? I wonder…

If you like this, you’ll love my original piece, Blue Hill! It’s a song about a lover left on a… well, I’m not going to spoil anything for you. Hey, have yourself a fantastic day, alright?

A Look Into My Life

If you’re still here, still interested… The chipmunk section stems from a dream I had recently. I used to have nightmares about the Wendigo hunting me to defile my flesh in its unending hunger. That ended a few years ago when I brought a tool into my dream where I stabbed it. It didn’t come after me at all since then. But, I still have annoying nightmares that keep me on the edge of sleep. Just a few nights ago, I couldn’t sleep an hour of restful sleep. Instead, I had a chipmunk running behind my head for hours. I hope that explains how a chipmunk became a minor antagonist, and then made a perhaps “heroic sacrifice”. Goodness gracious, what a meddling creature. I just wanted some sleep!

I hope you have yourself some very restful sleep tonight. Heaven knows I could use it.
