There are times in life when you will fail. There will be times when you can hardly lift your head. Those times will hurt. They will hurt more than any initial wound can gut you, and you will wish you were dead.

But do not let this stop you. You are more than a sum of your faults. You are more than everything you have done in life. If you let your past define you, you will never meet a future. When you feel you’ve failed, it’s more important than ever to get up. You can do this.

Pain and Punishment

I know
How am I to let it go
Holding through the vertigo
I know

Things I must have left behind
Up and out and on a climb
Forgive my limping wrist
Rusting mist

It stands to reason
An artifact of living a lie
I stand for treason
I left my inner child to die
My rotting empathy reminder of a failure to try
Appalling tyranny would toss me in the slammer for life
But I’m a fugitive deserving any blame in my head
And I refuse to live the pardon for the shame and the red

I might surrender
But it’s not the end

Give. It. To me.
The pain and punishment
Serve. And. Obey.
Don’t run. Don’t hide.
Give. It. To me.
That pain and punishment
Nobody dies so long as I burn alive

Who would’ve thought I’d lose to my weakness
Backing a future I couldn’t ignore
Biding my time like I had no regrets
Just another body found on the shore

Who would’ve thought I’d claim for another
Second or minute I lost for untold
Worshiping ghosts who had come my brother
When in the end mine will join them to roll

Give. It. To me.
The pain and punishment
Serve. And. Obey.
Don’t run. Don’t hide.
Give. It. To me.
That pain and punishment
Nobody dies as long as I burn alive

Give. It. To me.
The pain and punishment
Serve. And. Obey.
Don’t run. Don’t hide.
Give. It. To me.
That pain and punishment
Nobody dies.
