We try to bury these emotions we call negative. We pretend they’re unhelpful and problematic. As if our sadness or anger only give us shame, we move on or distract ourselves. We know that beauty can be achieved through their expression, yet we punch them down with not even the slightest eulogy. Why is this?
It’s the slightest of sorrows that take us off our foreseen paths, a diverted route while we had thoughts like,
“I had only just gotten started with my career, and now I’m fired?”
“We finally got to know each other, and now she says it won’t work out?”
Trick is, you were never distracted by these thoughts. You were never pulled aside by these happenings. It’s all a part of your story. If you wanted something slow and smooth, you ought to have stayed dead. As we are, I’m glad to live alongside you.
