I’ve met a few people in the past year who just got out of long-term relationships. People who have been with their partners for years, you know? That’s a considerable amount of time and emotions they’ve dedicated to a single person. A beautiful thing, for sure, and it looks a little different for everyone. The time taken to reassess who they are at their core, and come back to their full self– the self they hadn’t given away?
That’s one of the hardest times in life. I’ve been there. Thinking I didn’t need anyone but my one partner, growing into a rhythm with them, looking to a future spent by their side… In times like these, we need to remember those who were by our side at a distance, watching events unfold. We need to remember our best friends we had before our partners. We need their help, and as such, we need to honor them!

Brother Lost
Who’s waiting for me?
Who’s waiting for me!
I’ve been lost to the masses
Kicking asses
But I’m out of touch
Hide, brother, from the ashes
With your grimey gals
In the rabbit hutch
Brother, are you okay?
Brother, are you okay?
Have they taken you?
Brother, are you okay?
Brother, are you broken?
Is it someone new?
My man
He’s been out too far
And out too long
I can
Imagine he’s lost again
When he’s out this long
I know I ought to be there
When he’s in trouble now
I trusted in his passion
My man is burning down
Somebody help him
Who will help him
He’s lost again

You may one day be in his position once again. You may one day be the lost soul who needs a hand, for one reason or another. Honor the hands that hold you during those times, and take it one step at a time.
