I’m all for chasing personal change. It’s beyond a doubt important to keep aiming ahead of yourself. But. When you’re burnt out. When you’re fallen, hurting, and crying for help, it’s okay to look around. It’s okay to take it all in, and assess where you are. Then, when you’ve found the answers you need…

Work from Home

I think I’ve been looking for change
Been holding my hand for a hope
I can do this

I know I broke once before
The effigy masks how I wore
Help me through this

I think I’m fine without my
sycophantic cycles
Making love to a mic
on the way from work

I think I’m fine before the
cultist gods and idols
reminding me we die
the way we lived

Somebody broke all the rules
She told me she’d handle the fall
and I believed her

Took all my mind just to wait
’cause only the good get a date
with the pearly gates

I waited for years to unwind
Found her again, second time
far from home, but I

Gave her a kind second chance
Warning myself in advance
How could I lose

I think I’m fine without my
sycophantic cycles
Making love to a mic
on the way from work

I think I’m fine without my
cultist gods and idols
reminding me we die
the way we lived

I thought up a reason and left
Locking my heart in a chest
Where it should be

And so I could never turn home
I pleaded a pilot, “Be flown,
far away from me.”

I think I’m fine without my
sycophantic cycles
Making love to a mic
on the way from work

I think I’m fine without my
cultist gods and idols
reminding me we die
It’s one more day we say we stayed the same
