Hubbub all around, and hardly a wink of rest. Why, just this morning I was thinking to myself, “I’d rather cry to sleep than stew in my pain”. Mad world, isn’t it! But we’d be mistaken if we thought we needed to escape from it all. Yes, for each time we think the grass is greener on the other side, we forget the work it takes to maintain the proverbial lawn. Just remember that what you have now, is a culmination of your efforts. And, of course, have an eye open for new opportunities… but don’t let them take over your life.

Yonder Bay

I wish I were new
For all the isles before
When the mist and the meckle
Take my eyes

I wish I were new
That all which lies in wait
Could wait along forever
I’d earn a living rate

I’d wait and bus the tables
Fight hard for little pay
The tipping jar a shooting star
I’d drink it all away
I’d wake up every morning
Feel battered, bent, and bruised
I’d turn the television
And find me on the news

“A man went wild and raging the streets
He bit my child and kicked him in cleats”
I’ll think about my breakfast
and, running out the door
I’ll rush to find a way from where I’m welcome ’round no more

My bounty for a bus or train
My all for but a cab
But one-on-one I’m surely slain
These angry locals stab

I’m out the street
Down the road
Over a crooked fence
Past the guard
He’d chase me hard
I ran away ’til hence

A silk and satin sailor
Beckons “Hurry, join my crew.
There’s food to eat and men discreet
and never none to do.”
Without a second glance to chance
I up and out away
To save my hide and greet the tide
despite my soon dismay

The stolen robe
and loot in tow
was equal his and mine
For stealing from a charity
will get us both in time

Oh, left, right
The shadows bite
So watch what’s in the seas
They seem to know
and chase us so
We stumble on the breeze
